Dedicated to Nanette (RIP)

I awake early and
I have nothing to say
but your name.

I awake early and
I have nothing to remember
but your face.

I am the wild beast, who,
after being befriended,
turns to bite the hand
so gentle and understanding.

I awake early and
I have nothing to scream
but your name.

it seems that love tames the animal, but the animal is vindicative and can't stand quiet...A very interesting and wonderful write.

Thank you, yann. I wrote that poem on the back of a private club card in a severely hung-over state  in the early 1970's the day after I came home to find my wife and daughter gone. Over the years I have not changed one word of the poem, and in fact, still have the card it is written on. I knew why she left. I could not blame her.

The poem was moving and then when I read the background to it in your reply to Yann,
it just flat made me cry...ebm

Yeah. It still does that to me after all these years, ebm. One good thing came of everything. Two children, a daughter and son. The daughter tracked me down thirty-eight years later. Oh, I had questions to answer so I wrote it all down in a published memoir. Thank you so much again.

The pain and sorrow in this shows through.
