She walked upon a rocky path
from where the trees sparkled
to the excavation site
of embedded memories.

She paused there a moment, two,
but didn't build a monument
or overlay an altar
with all she thought would last.

Instead she picked up paper, pen,
and wrote as one possessed of love
the lines and chapters, verse,
of how and why the trees all died.

She planted then her masterpiece
like a cold grave stone
at the site of unearthed heartache
cordoned off from future steps.

There's a forest up ahead,
a rocky mountain, hill,
a river, stream, raging sea
and all she's yet to feel.

But of her pause a moment, two,
I suspect it lasted many years
before her freedom charter
complete and notarized!

Progress rolls over memories, but still our memories will persevere.

Thanks JerryPat and ebm.  Some memories refuse to be buried, don't they?  Perhaps only so for the weak.
