Winter's Fool

Leaves have turned brown and died
And ar3e falling to the ground
The Summer has come and gone
And Winter’s coming ‘round.

The days are growing shorter
And nights seem twice as long
Too many hours to wonder
Where love we knew went wrong.

The cold creeps into my bones
And the chill won’t leave my bed
I stare into the darkness
As old memories fill my head.

I pull the covers ‘round me
Close my eyes, hope sleep will come
Toss and turn all through the night
Fall in and out and dream some.

Half asleep, I reach for her
Feel the cold sheet ‘neath my hand
Eyes open wide, I lay there
As I try to understand.

Why’d I ever let her go?
Why I’d I think that it was cool?
Why’d I let that Summer’s I playing
Turn me into Winter’s fool?

I wonder if I’ll last till spring?
If I’ll get another start?
I know it‘s just the Fall of love
But it It’s Winter in my heart.
