Evening is the calyx
Wrapped below the soft whorl of petals
In search of fragrances to grace the skin
As sandalwood and minutes take tender time
To caress the pose of you
Head back reclined on arms
The curves are written in slow vowels
And sighs of willow that still reach the ear
From where they rooted among stone
Sip the edge of river

Comes the goldfinch hordes
And down is plucked of seed to feed
The hunger inside the emptiness that is night

I trace the lines
One word complete before the next upon the thigh
Laying flat nouns upon the skin with commas
Placed for pause between the listings of all
That flies across my mind watching you
Sit with eyes half closed and lost
Within the realm of small yellow wings
And sough of breeze through twigs
Gathered upon the ends of stem where sits
The thrush having forsaken the leaves below
To sit the last of sun and sing

Blooms from moaned moments notes
The wonder of arcs and form left exposed
To the currents of thought and river’s murmur song
Soft along rounded stone I feel the warmth of sun
Within my palms and weigh the tastes of summer
swallowing the fruit of small ripe melons
Spitting seeds along the sand where vines
May someday twine among the roots of willow
And sparrows pick soft rustling to uncover more
Than dun colored feather or slight broken melody
Sung forlorn

When alone it is the night that holds
feather’s last and thinks on only the way to use
For ends

For ends
Evening and laughter on red lips with dreams
I paint instead upon the lens of eye a memory of lines
And write forgotten poetry upon the skin
Vellum of bare back tender the whim
To weigh cup of you in palms as I scribe
The verbs carefully along the spine
Then cradle the song of mockingbird in shadows
Letting it slip between my fingers
As would the water
On hand strayed through stream

I look again
And follow close upon the liturgy of sighs
With hushed psalms
To follow lines and words
Within the calyx formed of evening
And smell the scent again
Of night and you
Reborn

What a poetic calyx to sip at, dear Cpat Poet.

Very savory indeed!

I especially enjoyed the sensuality of this poem.  It read like a massage.  Thank you sir.
