Disciple to the gospels' sound
once heard consigned to rote.
A blues afficionados' soul
enslaved by every note.

A country western junkies' fix
performed on steel guitar.
A sermon or a symphony
they're something of a par.

Some techno or a reggae beat
command the feet to move.
The boogie woogie, acid, soul,
like, can you dig it, groove.

There's folk and jazz and bluegrass man,
and funk to name a few.
A tribal chant a Cantors' voice
punk rock and glam rock too.

As music's my religion it
commands my very soul.
Praise be and sing it from on high
it's time to rock and roll!

Amen to that my brother! Music is my life's blood. Worked in radio for 15+ years and played everything under the sun... blues, jazz, folk, reggae, motown, R&B, soul, polka, classical, metal, alternative rock, new age, big band, and gospel. Ya, I said polka... six hours on Saturday monrnings. They called me the Polka Price. Worked for a public radio station with a very eclectic format. I was the go-to-guy who could fill in for anybody. My i-pod is a pretty interesting walk through the musical landscape. Thanks for this one Doc.
Keep those tunes spinnin'!

Cpat,
Many thanks. I've got my favorites too, but they are so diverse I can't seem to categorize them. If you're familiar with Pandora Radio, just for kicks look up Dr. Moose radio, it pretty much covers the last 60 years of cool music.
Doc

Andrew,
Ol' buddy,"eclectic" is just about my middle name. If it's cool, it plays, regardless of genre. I update my Pandora station constantly as the gray matter allows. Sorry, no polka yet, but hey I do enjoy it too.

Hey Doc!  Trust me when I say, six hours of polka music on a Saturday morning is enough to drive any sane person bonkers! I only did it because I was the on-call guy. But you do it enough and you start to get good at it. Scary stuff! I'll stick with my rock n'roll, blues, jazz, and R&B funk! Can ya dig?

Hey, there's all kinds of music, Doc
From acid jazz to pop and rock,
From traditional to rockabilly
So many styles to drive you silly.

I tell ya I'm a happy fella
Whenever I hear a capella
And when I tire of old doo wop
I tune in to some  barbershop!

Celtic puts me in a mood
While gospel is a good soul food,
The mariachi latin beat
Can put a motor on my feet!

Reggae is a different sound
While classical is world renowned.
Give me folk songs for a while
And you will see the ole' deer smile!

Polka, choir, and R&B
All bring out the best in me
Although I think that rap and punk,
To tell the truth, is so much junk.

I even hum some children's songs
Or soundtracks as I walk along.
With all the different styles, I've found
Music DOES make the world go 'round!

Yeah, "she's" some kind of wonderful.

Balladeer,
I guess I was kinda "preaching to choir" with this one. I wonder if musicians admire
poets as much, lol.
Doc

easy1,
Thanks, your quotes struck a chord.
