At 42 degrees
She breathes a fickle air of fog
And the early exhale of sun simply adds eddy to the mist
Where it collects against the trees
Turning the brilliant orange and yellow
A ghostly pale hue that reminds me of how it is
When for days I have not tasted the beauty of you
Or felt the currents you swirl around stone
Tug gently at me with calls
Only I have heard

The eastern side of her bed is softly made of sand
That shifts with each change of rain as she rises or lays still
And it was there I put pen to words and told the tales
Of how when stars laughed at the moon
She would whisper the songs in low murmured poems
Of Great Blue or Little Green who waited patiently
Alongside the matted moss with hopes
With dreams

As she rose my footprints became small depressions
Then were washed smooth no longer marking the way I paced
An impatient school of perch hungry to feed upon the seduction of crumbs
That floated slowly upon her skin as the weary wind
Lay its palm upon the sleeping hip of bend
And she shrugged again
To lay still

Morning lifts her gown
And she lies nude to my eyes
Until she reaches out to the eddy of mist and covers
The intimate curves suggestively before resuming  her modest prose
Leaving me with memories of the poetry she composed
Within marrow of rotted log or below the stone spined ridge
And I know
I can't look at her
Without seeing too the you
You are
To me
