I walked alone through desert land
To the Valley of Mount Hor
In Sabbatean wilderness
Near Petras' golden door

A Voice! A Voice! Within the wind
Across the desert floor
It howled! It moaned! It told me of
Forgotten days of yore

It chanted of dark mystery
With ancient tongue it told
To bring the very dust to life
Base metal into gold!

Plato,Pliny, al Khazar
Merlin and the rest
Day by day throughout their lives
This knowledge put to test

Simon Magus it is said
In ancient word cried out
And trembling he would raise the dead
Evil spirits then cast out

All were sealed, and all are gone
Have died the death foretold
A vapid paupers' legacy
Their powers bought and sold

This mystic structure standing still
Marks the place where they had sinned
The moonless night it hears them still
They're crying on the wind

The wonderfully mysterious atmosphere of this poem really makes me want to see the site. Must be very inspiring. Bravo! So, you also live in France. Well, finally a "neighbor" poet. Not sure where Auberge is. I live in Annemasse, near Geneva on the Swiss border. Hope to read more of your work soon.

Anything that uses "Sabbatean wilderness" has my vote.
