ME. In the Shadow of the Mt.

I am from the Downeast, up north
From the shadow of Katahdin
Appalachian's begining or end

I am from the pine covered mountian
From summer sway of lupines dancing
and lush blueberry feilds

I am from the rocky coast
From cool sea spray kissing salty lips
and lazy summer days

I am from a Northeaster
Buried in winter white
From snowbank forts launching snowballs
and a warm quilt by a cozy fire

I am from small town comfort
From mill town gone bust
and friendly neighbors helping others
No need for locked doors

I am from working nights only
Vampire, carrying my tray of needles
From staying up late on PIP
Reading poetry till dawn

I am from dreamers
Who dared to dream

Note: For those who may not know -
Katahdin - is the largest mountain in Maine
Northeaster - is a blizzard in the north-east
Downeast (Downeaster) - a native from Maine

Thanks Ida, Maine is very beautiful and mostly unspoiled. Maine is called the "Vacation Land" because people come from all over to vacation here. Welcome anytime!

The "I Am" series offers so much insight,
as well as a continued sense of mystery.

Thanks for coming along on the ride!

my 'writes' are also mostly from/about the mountains along the N.E. U.S.A.
coast (the 'endless mountains' section of the Appalachians in particular)

Wonderful! So gorgeous, feels familiar from my age-old Connecticut days (35+ yrs ago.)  I also love the 'no need for locked doors'.. and your glimpse into life as a phlebotomist or nurse... vampire, lol!   Captivating, Kat!
Best to you...

i loved this!  I'm from mountains and seashore of NH. Have been to the rocky coast of Maine many, many times and love it more each time I visit.

A beautiful poem that I enjoyed very much.

You've inspired me twice now in a matter
of a week katahdin! When I wrote the jester
it was in response to me thinking about humor.
Indirectly from where your poem on the moon
made me smile. I like this one very much,
so I tried my hand at my own "I am from".
Even though I no longer call it my home.
Thank you!!

Life is meant to be enjoyed, not just endured.
