Listening to every heart

Easy and Go

I traversed some poet archives tonight
Looking for some Celtic singing
And found two old poems that I adore
With a somewhat brilliant Irish ringing

My friend is ready for her journey
But He doesn’t provide a stopwatch
Nor a tumbler of grain to say
When I should loosen this handhold’s touch.

Every time I visit her, prior to
And even after her confine
She drew me in with all her stories
A true Shenachie …though really not mine.

Feeling touch only from shoulders and hands
And yes, those loving kisses upon her brow
Left her feeling special and good
I still bestow them even now.

My friend is ready for her journey
But He doesn’t provide a stopwatch
Nor a tumbler of grain to say
When I should loosen this handhold’s touch.

A middle child of several siblings
All living within her love and grasp
Yet I relish the time we alone have spent
When my hand is within her most gentle clasp

Thank God she let me meet each one
That I might share with them her graces
And as I look from one to yet another
I see her vision in all of their faces

My friend is ready for her journey
But He doesn’t provide a stopwatch
Nor a tumbler of grain to say
When I should loosen this handhold’s touch.

We spoke of the great After-Awhile
She said, “I shall come to see you then,”
A promise with love, given to me
I said, “I shall know the place, and when.”

I remember the play, Wit, it was
Of a professor reviewing her existence
She decided when all was said and done
To let go, calmly, without resistance.

My friend is ready for her journey
But He doesn’t provide a stopwatch
Nor a tumbler of grain to say
When I should let loose with my touch.

Before one day more, I shall tell my friend
“Never worry of letting go, I will always be here”
For I know the day will come to say
“It’s okay, you can leave, the Kansas skies are clear…”

Permission is just largesse of love
Given only by a chosen few
But all want her pain-free, please, God!
And be released to a greater view.

My friend is ready for her journey
But He doesn’t provide a stopwatch
Nor a tumbler of grain to say
When I should let loose with my touch.

Her skin, now calm upon my own
And I take into my sight her visage
To take into my own abode
And dwell upon this bon voyage!

Louise, PiP's Bridget Schenachie, passed away at 1:00 a.m. this Friday morning. She did not have a difficult struggle...

I am honored in that her family has asked me to give the eulogy at the services.

She so enjoyed Passions in Poetry. She once commented that she certainly gained more from this site than she could ever give back.

And for those of you who had some personal contact with her? You left her with many smiles. Thank you for that.

You gave her a very special gift in her last days, as she did you.

I truly am saddened by the news of Brigit's passing. A lovely human being who expressed her beautiful and gentle nature through her talented pen. I know this loss must weigh heavily on your shoulders, but your heart will continue to hold her close.

God speed, Louise!

Love & God's Everlasting Light,
Linda
P.S. Karilea, that was truly beautiful what you have written. I know the eulogy will go well and will be a comfort to those who lost someone so dear.

Beautiful tribute, Karilea. Perhaps you should read tis poem at the funeral, it would make a fine eulogy. She was lucky to have a friend like you.

This is very beautiful and very sad, Karilea.  I didn't know Bridget at all, but I am very glad she had you for a friend to be with her all those years and at the end.  May her soul rest in peace.

Louise, who was a Catholic and a lifetime member of the Secular Franciscan Order, was fond of studying various other religions as well.

So it did not surprise me during our last meal together in her apartment that she looked me straight in the eye and said, I will be watching all of you, for I believe that I can.

So it is natural for my thoughts to go to the mystery of things as they unfold...little things that I will probably write about later. Coincidence might be the term some folks would use; but I prefer the mysticism of a promise kept.

I miss her greatly, but rejoice that she is whole again.

Thank you all for leaving behind your thoughts...I love you for that.
