Sketch 1: Foundation and Footing

Steady screet of sound as pick end hits ground
One shovel full removed along the marked lines
Of long grave the days began to bury here
The stone and lime and sand that holds the joists above

Some procession of Dixieland swings easier
Black roses on lapel an easy target for blind bees
The sting is always there
When homes built on lies and quicksand
Shift then crack along the seams

Below frost line lives the warmth to hold
A steady calm in storms as old we grow and time
Ticks on like gravel dropped through sieve
How well
We believe in miracles or hold to hope
Swing the metal spike of pick and dig deep
To find reasoned more that we without ears or hands
Can feel or hear but the grate
When it’s only bones
Enjoyed in fear

Sketch 2: Elevation 1

Raised upon timbers and stone
I wrap wings torn around the joints and hold out drafts
Of white paper wind scattered among the clouds and trees
I forgot how to fly
Learned to stand only slowly as a counterweight of stone
That leveraged the depths of grey into walls of

Enclosed vestibule where

Beds of iris bloom in snow and pale days find short sun cold
I grasp the warmth of faith with tatted feather hands
Hold
Landscapes within shown only in a shade of broken lines
Leaving room to fit the sight chosen
Requisite permits not included nor is their grace in the stand
Of hemlock

Would the wings heal
I might learn again to lift them to wind
Or fold them close and pretend the steal of sky
Enough for one

Sketch 3: Side views as conceived

We picked the names of hurricanes in season
And watched them grow round with eyes that stared
At hunger to draw more in
Creating current of wind that raised the tide
To spill over the shore as it washed away broken bottles
With messages gone long from eyes

Count three slowly along the edge of Eve
Picking apples from the limbs of poetry drawn on page
As simple lines deconstructed verbs and salvaged nouns
Nursed upon the breast of ground
You can see the storms come before they are born
Still we stay
Side elevations reviewed and iron rings
Tether the siding to beds
Of lupines grown blue
And magnolias a fragrant hue of vestal white

Sketch 4: Rear View Right

The spine arches along the peak
And shoulders of grass brace against the hill
Pleasing both the eye and mind
As captured within the lens of both is revealed the intimate
Copse of well trimmed hedge bordering the lawn’s end

Curves dominate the plan bringing a calm open feel
To soothe the harder boundary of days
When torn and battered the earth beneath was harshly used
To construct a field of weeds
Where wild fed the ferret and mink
In their own lust to capture every small creature in teeth
A sport of sorts viewed by earth and owl
Through large eyed wonder at the new and different shapes of moon

Sketch 5: Rear View Left

Undone
By you
there are dreams
Sketch 6: Internal Views

Well to appoint the rooms with taste
Understating hues as colour added in haste runs carmine
And molars grind along the jaws in angst of arches
Supinely displayed in REM

Light let in through panes curtained eyes for modesty
Though setting allow a privacy of thought
Few look anyway to see beyond the lawn
Still reflections move with sun and the shadows change
But remain to lay juxtaposed on 11PM sighs
When rough hands or words are found to please some inner need
To live beyond the glass

Exposed the Naked floors are pine
Soft enough to yield and scar
Stained honey and cinnamon they have soft glow
A sheen reminding of how damp with sweat the skin
Too breathes

Sketch 7: From Above

Shingles, shakes split and lain an overlap
Patterns form are born then repeat
To add patina with passing years there is a blend
And wings grow weaker without test of use
Feathers fade rich palate to grey

Looking down on form and movements within
Once upon a time grows wild a hoary head of roses
Un-pruned or clipped to overtake an open expanse
Hemmed in
Gretel shows Hansel the way spices feel
A heat at back of tongue slow warms the throat
And spreads to gut where it rests
An ache for more

While amid the beds of foxglove and delphinium
The mocking bird sings sweet notes
To footnotes on back page
Where sketches end the refrain of angels
Fallen by and by
In love

So clay begins
  from crumbled stone
and ends in rain

This is so fine.  What a tale your thoughts tell, they are like none other, your insight is so keen and absolutely phenomenal.

You blow me away time and again, and I truly adore reading you.
