Facilis decensus averna,
This we all know now,
The descent into hell is easy,
And the slope slippery and greasy.

We cannot go through life,
Our hearts heavy and full of strife,
We must learn to seize the day,
And in this world make our own way.

Facilis decensus averna,
This we all know now,
The descent into hell is easy,
And the slope slippery and greasy.

The road is paved with intention,
The worst of which we do not mention,
For fear and unknowing breed hate,
And before we know it it's too late.

Facilis decensus averna,
This we all know now,
The descent into hell is easy,
And the slope slippery and greasy.

The Latin phrase reminds me of stories I've read or seen on TV about vulcanologists getting trapped down inside a crater when a sudden violent eruption occured. Some of those stories are a bit on the desperately trying-to-escape, somewhat gruesome side.

A good write despite the somewhat depressing subject... Thanks for sharing!

In Literature they taught us how to explicate a poem, that is, writing down the images and associations evoked by each element in a poem and each line.
I am going to try to explicate this one though knowing in advance that I will fail, for doing so would take a lifetime, and part of mine is already gone.
This poem suggests studies in archetypal psychology, mythoology and the role that inner figures as timeless and universal images play in our inner lives.
I aj getting too sleepy to type. (yawns and falls out of chair).  I try again soon.
