where the wild flowers grow

0 posted 2010-08-24 12:51 PM

I hold a garden in my hands,
kept them closed for so long
that only the faint smell of lavender and mint
has followed me wherever I may go.
And as if you did not know,
my soul needs sunlight and water to grow,
only you have created such a lonesome shade
to keep me small,
with you,
I haven't any seeds to sow.

There is a fierce wind within you,
I can hear the chimes when you speak.
The bells of your words resonate in the breeze,
and stick like wet petals to my memory.

And I smell the dirt underneath your fingernails,
for miles the wet Earth lingers
in every place you roam,
from the pulling and picking of the roots,
from the death of the morning blooms.

When the world is still and quiet,
I know you are sleeping.
A bed of thorns whispers defeat,
the air is stagnant and slow.
It is now the stay or go of thoughts,
bitter and close to home,
that I know
a garden can only die
if it is first grown.

oh...indeed a pleasure to read you...
you've layered this well me thinks, and though it holds a subdued anger and sadness is also seems to hold some though of hope..

truly...enjoyed this.

Many good lines here. Whatever the shade is a metaphor for, it works well in the context you have created.
