This poem is kind of ironic, considering most of my poems now are free-verse due to the man spoken about in my poem..Haha.

*****

I used to write with such a rhyme,
Followed the rules most of the time.
Until one day I met a man
Who wrote for him and not for fans.
His pen touched down without a plan,
And down the page a poem ran.
I asked, "Please read?" and he began.
His words flowed smoothly, better than
The poems I'd thrown in garbage cans.
     He'd broadened my poetic span.
"Free-verse poems are not a crime",
He said to me, his words sublime.

So-called free verse can be like playing tennis with the net down, as Frost averred about inferior attempts at it, or Whitman-esque in its scope. Best of luck.

Irony always has its place, even inside the process of writing..whether it is free verse or Rhyme.

Unlike, Easy... I do not judge the use of free verse or rhyme, and find the intent of what is written to be as important in many ways as the form.

enjoyed your irony....
