It gets old, being alone...
sleeping, waking, eating,
singing, watching, breathing,
cooking, sitting, reading.

The clock is still blinking
from the power outage a week ago,
I don't care much for keeping time
when I mostly go with the flow.

And I miss your arms around me
wrapping me against you tight
when doing dishes or washing clothes
or laying down in bed at night.

How can I get good at marriage
when you're only here a couple days
then gone out on the road again
while I'm here in a lonely haze?

And I dread the coming season,
cool crisp air turned cold,
how am I to keep me warm?
Being alone, it gets old.

It can be tough at times, and you have covered the subject very well here.

And, hooray for blinking clock lights (although not for power outages). They are like a time-suspended flashing colored beacon... Temporarily, of course, because sooner or later one has to reset the clock or unplug it.

Excellent write!

A long time ago, I broke up with my boyfriend, and I got lonely and to cheer myself up I would pretend he was with me and being his annoying self.

Then we got back together and I married him.

Now I'm pretending I'm not annoyed that I feel so alone when he's HOME.

sigh

We never get "good" at it, lovie.

Never.

and hey, I was up and cryin' anyway.

So have a hug and a sniffle.

alone is hard... and there is little anyone can say that eases the pain of it..
you capture it well...

"And I miss your arms around me

That is my favorite part. I think you read my mind when I let it go there.

I really like.

Love this write, but this specific verse made me chuckle because it reminded me of when I was once told: “I only flip the pancakes so I don’t have to clean up the burned griddle.”

Sounds like he is doing what he has to do to make a living, no?
I bet he misses you just as much…

I understand this so well Dixie and I hear you missing him.
I miss my husband too...I have learned to be good at the marriage I have.

Nice, my friend...could be far worse; I know you're counting your blessings, I can see it in your pieces like this...

happy for you...
