Dear Lord,
let me sleep in peace tonight
without presence of a dream,
visions of certain somethings
that make me want to scream.

Let me be free of snakes and spiders,
dog attacks and strange birds flying,
falls from tall buildings, diagnosis
of a doctor saying I am dying,
car wrecks and police officers
who come to take me off to jail,
a cheating husband, a plane crash
and a train running off the rail.

I try to think of good things
and I pray before I go to bed,
but for whatever reason, I
have nightmares instead.

Lord,
my eyelids are heavy now
and I don't want to be afraid,
let me sleep in peace tonight...
my nerves are way past frayed.
Let me wake in the morning
with a clear heart and mind,
just one night, for just one night
let me leave the dream behind.

There is a depth of sheer desperation to this, that i would hope most of us wouldn't empathize with. Well done.

Tough when we can't even rely on sleep to clear our mind. Our mind's are never at rest are they.

Loved this Dixie dear.

I hope your slumber is soft and relaxing

I have read we always dream at least a little. Sweet Dreams to you then, pleasant enough that they are not recalled sadly as waking being merely a needed and deserved escape...

Although I have also read and know that the deepest part of sleep is not affected, so even with bad dreams later on in the cycle, some rest is enjoyed.

Here's to you... hoping the nightmares might take leave and you find rest...
