Sometimes I wish for more than 24 hours.
See, it's already one in the morning
and I'm stealing from another day.
Yesterday ran out with no warning.

And here I am, praying for snow,
missing a beautiful man,
careening through words much like
one of those speed-readers can.

I don't spend enough time on things
that end up in halves and fourths,
and lately it seems to be the case
of putting the cart before the horse,
but who knows? Maybe with the winter,
I can put in for change of course.

And here I am, praying for snow.
It just ain't right for any one being
to wish for more than 24 hours,
to smash into tomorrow, sending it fleeing.

I sleep less and dream more,
thank God every night
when my knees hit the floor;

asking to borrow time since
I'm not cut for a sprinter...
it's many miles to the rest stop
just up the road from winter.

Delightful rhyme and slant rhyme here. Things that are halved and fourthed (or quartered) is a great turn of phrase that runs the gamut from clock to kitchen to music room, and beyond very, very neatly.

Dear Dixie, everytime I see your picture and read your words, you remind me of Sissy Spacek in A Coal Miner's Daughter...

only better!

Much better.

Love this one, as always!
