Distant lines of geometry,
tracing where my heart yearns.
Ridges standing in line waiting for me,
to receive their call.

The first call, a whisper, through pines, around cedars,
tempting me to the first ridge,
where a symphony of yearning awaits.

Standing there, I gaze over and thru the mountains,
each named by others, yet each knowing my name.

Shhh. Can you hear them, too?

I start down through the boughs until the only sound I hear
is the sound of my own loneliness.
The next ridge awaits just out of reach
but just within reach.

Shhh.I think it's calling me again.

Yes! The next ridge needs me, too.

Alas, for now the only ridges I see are those of my past.
The ridges call, but only for my youth.

Thanks, cPat.  It has been awhile since I've written or read any poetry.  I miss that.  A recovering addict knows when to step back.

well sir, you've been missed... but there are times in everyone's life when stepping back is the right thing for them. I understand that very well, and have only recently come back myself.

Good to see you.... and if it works out, hope you can stick around a while...

Reminds me of the times I use to go hiking in our local mountains as a teen. During the summers I use to go with friends into the mountains for 4 or 5 days at a time... this was before cell phones.  I'm sure my mother had more heart attacks than I can count.
