Among birdsong wires strung to bone
The threads of lilies bleed a yellow bruise of worry
To discolor the flesh and hide what broke inside
My chest when the amaranth adds bloom
And the curve of intimate petals whispered
On some cold hand within the gloom
A half light bereavement lies beyond this realm
And each breath drawn finds me one more closer
The end of my days and nights upon this place

Come there the hushed plea of eyes
And an amber guile betakes my senses while the ear
Can hear only the sounds of sighs
As might pleasure a man with woman
Or the child who in a hunger
Suckled upon the warm milk of breast
And I am left to wander dreams without fairy tales
Though some find me Grimm of telling again
How it is when she moves in the lost
And deadest parts of schist as might my soul be condemned
Were it not for moments stolen along streams
And the drink of her when she speaks

So seldom heard

Any psalm of hope or prayer for that within
Which might give strength to endure
While not eroding away

Nightingale sings her trill of dusky rose
Laced with musk of open bloom
And the drench of dew that comes to garden
With the touch of nights fingers tracing lines
Much kinder than the birdsong wire or needles laced
Above the skin of spine
She has wings to fly and sits the long hours alone
To add her hymn to stars
The moon a chill of half breath wanes

I touch leaves and let them slender slide through tips
Then put them to nose and smell the green
Taste the spring of bloom

Half bind twists become the spiral cord
Holding one end looped around
While birdsongs draw a thicker coil to wire
And I am held together with small gauge strings
To stand among the ends of Janus
Searching naked limbs for the way to hold notes
Suspended above a frozen ground

All the while in listen
To the psalms you sing
In my heart.

"I touch the leaves and let them slender slide"   That line speaks to me, hisses at me.

I like how you describe this scene. Very beautiful sounds and images, but it also seems sad and lonely.

well, hello stranger....and by stranger, I mean less strange than me. :-)

nice to see you!

As for surprise~ I'm not much of a surprise ma'am... more like a lump of coal in someone's stocking at Christmas time wouldn't you say? ( chuckling)

nice of you to drop in and let me know you'd been here. Thanks!

Greetings, El Capitan!

"All the while in listen
To the psalms you sing
In my heart."

~ and that is one of the reasons why you are such a fine poet, sir! You listen ~ you truly listen.

Sending a big hug your way,

EA
