Strangle this wind till it breathes not

But lies stagnant and dead among twigs

The pyre of sun burns the soul into ripples

Half seen with squinted eyes or against

Some still darker green

So be it all that June too brings storm

To ravage the limbs in a tangle of misbegotten afternoons

That tears at roots and up heaves the strains of Bach

Into mounds of loess

where driftwood and fossils cleave along ancient seams

Into an anthracitic dream

Breathe

The rising stench of creosote and tar

Embalm the bones of breeze until in time

Entombed in lungs someone remembers to exhale

And stir some moment's fey thoughts

Into swirling dusts

                        Ashes to ashes they claim

But when you've always burned

   It is hard to say

                              Improbable to play out

Some benevolent gods touch to make it right

I forget my eyes

Wishing to be blind to all the throes and coquettish birds

Who flirt with songs while picking at sight or feel of air

Caught upon the twigs

A cheerful melody they sing song to their blood

Inhaling notes and trill through chest

While bills grip the opportunity

Oh yes.... The early one catches all

So tangle twine and place upon the lids

Some copper pence or golden loin

Fair the corpse of day and dream who lies

Prostrate upon the hours of dawn

In wait for more and mourners to parade

Sing the songs

The hymns of faith so far removed from day

As to be the eon past when birds were dinosaurs

And the fidelity of Magdalene was sure

Stretch out your fingers now

To touch the face of old

It is summer the funeral has just begun

In wait,

We crave a taste of water's flesh

Passed as sacrament to the sea

And cast our eyes to the sand

Wondering if footprints will be found

torn from the core of a burning page...love these lines here:

"   Ashes to ashes they claim

But when you've always burned

   It is hard to say"

sure is.

DS... many humble thanks m'friend...
whether it is climbing poles or setting posts, that creosote sure clings to the skin.
