She said " I love you baby"
Then kissed my ear seductively
I said "I love you too"
No two loves are identical
Like opinions on what color the sky is
Some are optimistic, some cynical
What type of lover are you?
I knew I loved her
Because when she leaves my soul starts hurtin'
I'm learning

Short…. Is the average lifespan of the black man
Only dating a year and a half
And I'm already thinking about putting a ring on her hand
I had my first dream about getting married
But I won't tell her about my dreams and my plans
I'm learning

We've been through a lot
Finally told her about my struggles with depression
How on some days the clouds never go away
And the rain never drops
She's learning

She said " That's okay baby... my love for you will never stop"
Sometimes I don't know what to say
I just thank her for loving me
Told her my main goal in life is to be happy
Because I know happiness is a luxury
We're learning

This is my first true love
I can only see good things for us through my eyes
I'm a perfectionist who struggles with the fact that he is only human
So if I make a mistake during the process of learning to be a good lover
I apologize

Ah, a wise man you are, not to mention kind and compassionate too.  She sounds wise and kind and compassionate too, and worthy of you – and if she stays around forever, she will prove just how worthy she is of you!

I enjoyed reading this. It is thoughtful, concise, and somehow symmetrically composed. That's quite a feat for a writer with manic-depressive tendencies....

It would behoove me to mention that a part of love in this world involves at least some personal sacrifice. Not thrown on a sword sacrifice, nor loss of gentle sanity nor anything like that---yet, it can be a grind at times. Forewarned is forearmed.
