Hi.. still on vaca, found a little moment to write about this awful opressive heat  =)
.
.

Immobile in the pine pitch sauna
of two in the pre-heated
afternoon,
steam, steam
in the air, the breath,
pressed to Earth
by a radiant palm,
still as death.
This heat is a force,
slapping the cheeks red,
sucking the juice
of any living item,
inhaling  moisture
jealously,
greedy, insensate
and monstrous.
Cumulus climb
the corners
of a burnt sky,
accumulated breath
and sweat
and tears
all rising in sullen
churning,
piling patient
and persistent.
Baked grasses,
browned to perfection
wait to be served
by the promising
storm.
Wait with the half-lidded
patience
of the shimmering bay,
tail-switching slow
under the
wilted willow.

Beautiful: heat of forest near small clearing, stillness of the air, sky observation, plants in mini-drought, shining waters, animal companion, a complete and well-composed picture, er, communication. This drew me in well.

Thankfully, the Pac NW prognosis is for some cooling over the next few days.
