the perch coo of the mourning dove drew me to the garden this morning newly greened handlets of leaves folded themselves perhaps in prayer a disappearance of purple moonflower blossoms bade me listen the soft lamenting coo-oo of an unmated male between the golden trumpet of squash blossoms and scarlet snapdragons a soft gray mound still warm in my hands a slow flutter of feathers dulling eye silence again the soft lamenting coo-oo of an unmated male ___________ (thank you Helen) |

Those gentle sad times...surrounded by color and smell and verdant life... a life's story, gently told. |

Is that what all that cooing is about, just some randy little doves looking for a mate? I'm not sure if that sound is going to annoy me more or less now... ha I might have to go out there with them one morning and coo along... lol Kate, this was really just so beautiful, you had me at the little leaves folded in prayer. I loved it! Thanks for posting it! I hope you're having a wonderful weekend! Richard xx |

Tears for the soft grey mound still warm in your hands and her mourning fiancé. Beautiful poem. I would like to believe it is fiction, but somehow I know it is not. Owl |
