Old,
I am old but not without my senses;
sensibilities resound
within my lensed awareness;
I do not await focus of political correctness.
I was raised in times of right and wrong;
the song of life rang clear in swift soliloquies
bound in choice and retribution,
I remember both.

I am beyond the pall tonight;
Jack when ice is readily available is fine and dandy,
oh so handy when I have managed to get home.

Did I ever mention that I have 18 inch biceps?
True, but who cares.
My days of being life support for sexual pythons are long gone.

Oh Lord, my glass is half full
of Jack that is,
of life as well I suppose.
I pray that there is deliverance.
I pray there is more ice.
Oh Hell, I pray there is more Jack!

Is it sick
that I miss the killing fields
when life suspended on a thread of skill and dispensation
of simple chance;
days
more often nights
when my talents exceeded every expectation,
‘cept for mine?

Ah
the trance of alcohol
cheap choice for the ages;
chance memories,
did you ever store the memories of you and I together,
the fulness of our time
fulness of the moments of us joined in rhyme as one?

I need another song
for tears of memory's long absolution,
I still can feel.
I need another drink to peel propriety's resolve;
I'd rather numb
be tonight's swift resolution,
so join with me
in philistry denying love's appeal;
join with me in dreams
speeding just beyond my reach.
How many twists and turns of soul's elusive peaks
did I teach you how to reach?
A little more and I will slow
perhaps to let you come to me
in dreams.

Quite rich in your description of a man lamenting on life.  I read this piece three times.  There is a lot there to digest.

There are times..maybe too many of them for some of us, that it is just hard to let the dreams in, or to escape who we are...

always a journey..and always a pleasure..
even when it hurts...

Life is joy and pain and finally just memories of both, at least for a time. Jack is of little use to me but the poem is another story.

Charly,
I have read this at least twenty times and find it is one of the best things I have read in some time.
I hope you don’t mind but…you inspire me:

Out of Nowhere Came a Letter

I read your letter
and glean something
more from it each time
with its honest tender touch
it is like a personal conversation
in the back corner
of a loud dark smoky bar
between two
at a two chaired table
it is raw, deep, and stark
I find myself folding
and unfolding each layer
of pages to reveal you
the real you
the one you hide away
the very clothes around you
and hold so close
it becomes your skin
every line stripping fabric
until at places thread
till there is nothing
but so much more
I see you now
I see you
more clearly than ever before
and the unblemished skin
and scars are beautiful

most times I only hear the echo, for if I allowed myself to hear the voice, I'd be afraid what it might tell me

good inspiring piece here icebox, grateful to read this

This was exceptional fine sir, I'm glad I got to read it, you are a man of deep worth and clarity, with a fine soul.

Happy Fourth of July my friend!
