she had shadow candy in her pockets
would reach for some sometimes
when strage folks were looking at her
and would unwrap it slowly then taste
made them all want some of her secret

they said she had spirts in her mouth
other people talking when she spoke
said the trees would listen and rustle
like she had wind demons in her words
and leaves were her hucksters of rumor

I knew her eyes some dawns before early
when my wine was gone and I was staggered
dodging the tripwires in alley valleys
and worshiping embers of something rolled
that made the pain grow more easy to find

she would watch me from a doorway and nod
as if she knew how we would fit together
when our bones went dancing with the devil
and our skins were left behind on chair arms
with rocking wicker holding them empty to dry

as I ran by her, I knew my steps were slowing

The ability to observe...and to really see is rare sir...
it's obvious to me you have that ability and the ability to weave your own back story to what you see...

welll done..as always

This falls into my "wish I had written that" notebook....magnificent imagery there.

INTENSE could put myself there ....  "they said she had spirts in her mouth other people talking when she spoke said the trees would listen and rustle
