The heat lingers, wrapped in heavy humidity.
The light fades, slowly and carefully.
The stars begin to wink, along with the lightning bugs.
Can you feel it?  Can you hear it?
The crickets begin their serenade,
if you stand still the mosquitos will whine at you.
The night deepens into blue-black stillness
Can you fell it?  Can you hear it?

It's nightfall in Alabama in the summer.

Beautiful portrait of nightfall. I love the "light fades slowly and carefully." Sound images are really good. And the poem has "roots;" it's obviously written from genuine experience. Bravo.

I can remember many such evenings..though not in Alabama...
evening and nightfall do seem to have a life of their own...in summer.

Very nice... blue black and deep purple with the slice of fading light in the west can be a magical time of day. Of course, tonight many people around the USA will be enjoying this waiting for fireworks shows to begin.
