“You always were an odd one,” she said
As she bent over the fender of Billie’s old Ford
And pulled loose what was left of the top radiator hose
After a tree, too stupid to know Billie had been at Halvern’s Tavern
Since 10 that morning refused to move from where it has stood
Unscarred for ‘most all of 50 years, had pushed the bumper and the radiator
Into some semblance of an inverted snow plow.

I just stood back and watched her work, knowing that to answer
And acknowledge that she was right would in no way appease her need
To explain to me how odd I was

“You drove over half Hell’s pasture and Arkansas when you left here”
She continued when she had straightened up holding a half a foot of gnawed looked rubber hose.
“ You no more found what you were looking for, and you couldn’t outrun the thoughts”

I was beginning to get worried, since Iambe rarely took the time to talk this much
‘less she was conning some greenhorn or hustling pool at Halvern’s.
“I guess we all have a right to be dumb.” She sighed as she unscrewed the metal clamp
And slipped it off the piece of hose she held.
“Lord knows I was” she looked up and continued,
“I thought you had sense enough to know you had a place here”

I reached out a well scared finger and was about to brush a piece
Of what looked to be half a dead Mayfly off her cheek
But, thought the better of it, when I remembered how she liked
To see me on my knees and my eyes watering when she thought
I was being extremely stupid or she was just ticked off at the world.

“That true?” I asked after I cleared my throat.
“True enough” she replied then walked over to where I stood.

Now, I never saw Iambe as the tender sort
But the kiss she gave my cheek made me think maybe I had missed something
Then the knee she brought up to say hello
Reminded me along with what must have been a new pet name
“Jackass, go get us a beer”  She said as she turned
And picked up a length of molded hose from her workbench.

It’s good to be Home……..

It's good to see lambe, Cpat...I always was fond of her.  That's because you write her so well.

Cpat Hair - There's no place like home. No place like home. This was different and I enjoyed lambe and the originality a lot, especially after clicking my heels 3 times.LOL Namyh

Martie,
Thank you ma'am.... decided that since i had stopped back in here that I might ought to write something new... Iambe, being that she is so familiar to write, was easy enough to cnjour up with a few thoughts..

Ya see... I know that dissapearing isn't an answer, but the character and myself have that in common..we think a lot more than we talk and sometimes the talking in our heads is too much...so we dissapear and try to get the noise level inside down to where we can live with it...or we grudgingly admit that some things we just can't change...
so writing her...is prety easy.... I know too much about her and him...not to be able to....

ok...I've rambled enough and to no point...
thanks for looking in ma'am... it is appreciated.

Ms Sun...
Yes, there are plenty of memories.. sometimes they are easy, sometimes they are tougher to write. But, you know all that...

thanks for the eyes ma'am.

Belle...
thanks kid. scribbled out a new one for this... since it was like coming home in some ways, and this is where Iambe spent most of her time.

Thank you kind soul... Iambe has been around a good long time. She's back in the archives along with Lacey and a bunch of other scribbles...

"No place like home"
yeah...now you see, you went and brought up an Oz connotation/context.. which is also one of my weak spots..

thank you for the kind words...and your eyes on this.

Helen,
I am not sure if she will return, but it seemed appropriate for her to show her face at least the once of more time.
