It’s early,
Before light, before sunrise,
Prewaking;
Premaking;
And yet the noise echoes clear.

It’s early,
A boy has tears in his eyes,
What’s he got,
Feels so hot,
Mommy cuddles with her dear;

“Don’t you cry,
Not to worry, Mommy’s here.

Gloom

Missing my mother today,
Oh to be a child in the 1950’s again.

I know the feelings, only having missed father, sister and special aunts... looking through  photos that one can touch and listening to voices of far away.

Just doesn't seem the same.

Suffice to say, friend, "me, too."

It's amazing how the touch of the cool hand of a mother upon a child's fevered brow is one of the more emotional memories one keeps with them...forever.

this is my husband and mom around 1962

I'm sure he would feel the same.

Thank you all,
For taking the time to read and respond.
Even though it has been a couple of years,
there are times
the missing is great.

Professor,

  Your appreciative poem has touched me as well.  If any consolation, it is true that hurt lessens over time.  The memories  always remain warm.  My heart goes out to you at the absence of your loved ones.

For Dad, it's going on 22 years; for Mom, going on 18 years.

So why do I still hear them both in my head?

Because I want to.

Perhaps we were lucky to ride the last wave of true childhood.

I enjoyed your poem, but unlike the others I don't know what you mean, not from my own experience anyway.  My parents both died years ago - 1974 and 1986 I think.

However, missing my horse, Flicka (28/04/2002) and my dog, Daisy (18/12/2009) tears me to shreds.
