And so,
there was 26.

Twenty six
different shades in the palette
to create 470, 000 contrasting
colors.

That would seem like
plenty of hues
to cast on canvas,
minus of muse.

But for me,
sometimes
26
is not enough.

I mean
even Baskin Robbins has
31
flavors.

Out of almost half a million
words
I still can’t find the right ones
to describe how I feel
toward you.

I need more letters
then just 26.

I mean how do you ask
forgiveness
from a heartbeat that forgave ?

How can you salvage
smiles
from a soul
that can’t be saved?

How can you write
of passion
when those feelings
have no names?

How do you say
I need you
when the mirror
clouds with shame?

These words,
like little soldiers
they march,
searching for unfound
loss
and obtainable
impossibility.

Sent out seeking
for give and devotion
true understanding,
faith, and
even emotion.

To only return from their quest
with suggestions,
bags full of answers
to unwritten questions.

Sometimes you just
have to know
when to put up
the white flag
and send
your pledges home.

Surrendering.

The expression experiment.

Is over.

Love has boundaries
no army can breach
right?

Bliss is restricted
to things you can
reach, yes?

I just wish I knew
these truths
before.

All is unfair
beloved and more.

And yet,
you can’t find belief
if you don’t believe,
in yourself.

There’s more to life
then
foolish poems
on a shelf.

Maybe half a million,
is enough,
to understand?

I
love
you,

I’m
sorry.

Cause all the words
I needed
I could count,
on just one hand.

I like this but would have started at the stanza which says 'out of a million words...' I think the first bit is unecessary - but that's just me.

A poet must leave traces of his passing not proof.

I'm always here Maureen, sometimes my words are just beneath the blue...

Helen, those little spaces between and behind, are the poem, the words merely provide the shade...

Much love to you both sweet ladies.
