"The Rose Garden" (Růžová zahrada)

Something lead me towards the Vltava
my friends have gone
my apartment is empty
all is quiet

I walked down Revoluční
nearing the river, my namesake
and in the corner of my eye I saw
a flash of color, pastels

white
yellow
pink
and oh the green

a small boy playing in the grass
toy dinosaurs full of color
grouped together like a herd, living in harmony
side by side grazing in the field

the father looked on
smiling
and I thought to myself
will I ever know happiness like that

my son, my son
would surely love dinosaurs
and science and all that I would teach him
the arts, capturing all the beauty that surrounds him

I walked on
passing by
women with their strollers
as they walked on by

nearing the pastels
I could see
as they came into focus
the flowers, the roses

they lead me on
the flowers increasing in height
in the few seconds as I neared the taller bushes
I would know they would grow, just a little taller, for me.

easier for the picture
easier for the pleasure
easier for the smelling
easier for the treasure

I sat and marveled at the color
the shapes, the petals
how they differ from the patterns
of those from my native land

I sat and saw
and heard
the pitter pat steps
of tiny feet

a little girl, no older than two
laughing smiling,
a daughter would be beautiful too
giggling singing, running through

her shirt,
a light bright pink
and I thought of you
your pink shoes

the pink sweater you wore
the second time we went to the Mat
how I spotted you on the street
walking away that day you had waited for me

when I called your name
as you walked away
the moment I paused to make sure it was you
I remembered your colors, I recognized you

I walked closer
closer to the rose
closer to the roses
discovering colors, shapes and shades

looking looking
wondering which shade
would match you
how the roses were grouped together, two by two

in the sun
on the bench
I sat
book in hand

closing my eyes
just for a while
in the afternoon sun
all was quiet, save for the family fun

I waited for the wind to blow, just right
every minute or two, the rosy scent in the air
It was as if you were beside me.
It was as if you were right there.

Yo Martiniat8,

This poem works very well, and is very descriptive.

This is a brightly coloured poem that incorporates the scents and sounds of real life. Well done!

A poet must leave traces of his passing not proof.

A river of a poem, with very skillfully expressed descriptions and emotions. I daresay this wasn't written extemporaneously... Yet, perhaps the poet had some vague expectation of meeting her for a rapprochement there?
