“Tea” he asked as he touched my elbow lightly
“or would you prefer a glass of whiskey?”
“coffee ,if you have it”  I said without a start
for his appearance had come to reassure me
just as his absence at times was relief

We sat upon fine velvet chairs
A table between us, though I always saw him
Reaching for the fire to warm something deep inside
Himself that could not be warmed by flames
Still convention has it habits and our souls
Embrace the real to find some normalcy
Our minds might leave behind

I rolled thankfully the mug between my palms
And stared into the rich black brew as if divining

Without looking at me or saying a word
He handed me a tome
An ancient book with tattered cover which I took
And looked to ask him what or why
But again, he was gone and only a small wisp
Of smoke that gathered above the fire
Gave me thought or pause to where or how

I sat the book upon my lap and it fell open to the floor
The page I beheld half torn
Was the right side of the chart I held the day before

At top it read “ief”
And the partial map below held drawings and a name
“A maneira aos sonhos”

I sighed

Upon a Once within A Time when all was
I remembered her turning to me from where she sat
And as she drew small circles on my forearm asking me
How one found their way when belief was not enough
And I had answered her with a tender kiss
As I took her hand then led her to the fire
Whispering  softly

“faith”

She turned and I brushed back her hair
As she said
“too often that”
“is just a word”

Picking up the book I added back my half page
Closed it with a soft rustle of paper
and rose

“It’s early M’boy” I heard him say
and I looked towards the fire

“my coffee is cold I fear” I replied
“ and I am tired”

“very well” he replied
“Sleep well, and may you believe in your dreams”

I could only half smile

Cpat...I know a blind man that reads old maps with his fingers...he tells me of the travelers that have rested their eyes in the ruts of ink and how they never returned again from their trespass..this set of images took me to his many tales as if they were on glass shelves.  enjoyed it

Thanks Dark... glad it brought to mind something you could relate to sir...

Maps are a strange thing... a perception of a place or route reflected in time by the understanding of the place. Old maps...could well be as the blind man said, filled with the ruts of those eyes that have studied or dreamed...
your eyes and comments are greatly appreciated sir...

You take us gently
by the senses
sit us beside you
regale us quietly
with musings extraordinary
and then you

disappear.

Like a dream.

In which I, for one, believe.

ah~ now you see Ms Sun...  If I truly did vanish, there might be a lot of people who would enjoy that..you know, one less source of irritation around to annoy them and all.

this is about the middle of the series... the one that follows this..I don't think I can "clean up" enough to post. LOL so I'll have ot see if I can segway into the one that followed. If not then I'll not regale anyone with the rest of the series, put people out of my misery, so to speak.. ( chuckling)

you are always kind my dear lady... thank you for the eyes and the reply.
