10AM ; chrysanthemums have opened their eyes
And drank their morning cup of dew
Just as I hours earlier pried my own open
Wide enough to see the black that sat in my cup
Waiting to be sipped just as the bitter of hours would
Through the time I escaped somnolence by busied calculations
Of how far it was from where I sat and OZ

I measured it once
And found the span of distance between my thumb and middle finger
Fit well along the collarbone of miles
With only a small stretch needed to delve within
The hollow of her throat and rest for a moment
lost in how it felt to touch the inches as remain
between cotton and the slick pavement of paths untaken

Feeling the broken yellow lines of pulse beneath the tip
Interspersed with the blur of woven fences
Even slow could be a faster find of miles or markers
Left to lie along the sides as reminders of the years
Or minutes
                 I forget time
And again which it is that stretches yellow petals
Along the concrete or why the fences matter
When fields are empty

Should the Tin Man or the Lion take her hand?

What bricks the measured breath of mewling lips?

Alyssum finds false start among the teeth of thistle
And the gap between my hands is empty again
But for the map I drew upon an ancient memory
Then folded in a crease of oilskin bound

I measured it once
         And found the space between
An empty span

You old scallywag...how you doing these days?
picken? me? must have me confused with someone who has talent.... I'm just an old work a day skunk who wouldn't know the difference between a chord and octave.

Thought I'd drop in and see who was around, as long as my welcome hadnt worn itself out.

I see you and Ballader are still picking on each other much to everyone's amusement...

No, I'm nice to him still, he's still mean to me. Good to see you posting again. I've been gone a long time too.

well, he always did have that sort of cruel streak in him.... picking on an innocent fellow like you just don't seem fair at all. Seems to me though you hold your own, but if you need someone to cover your back, let me know.

Hah! All Toerag needs is a heavy shirt to cover his back, as I understand he has that kind of back hair that only the Abominable Snowman has been able to match (at least that's what LongJohn says).

Good to see you dropping by, old friend.

I don't understand it, but I will read it over and over just for the sound of the words, they're like music.

I believe I understand, as I once found Oz
sitting in the East of the state, and then
once again when I found it Westerly...but
like all mirages, Oz can be mercurial and
oft'times rests only in one's mind.

Do I need to check with both the lion
and the tinman? Rather I should check with
the ever illusive scarecrow who doesn't even
visit our fields of vast, or at least, what
remains...

maybe the scarecrow is exactly to whom I
should check in with...being nearly extinct
and all.

Hugging you upon your return.

Sunchine.... now now now....
we all know the Scarecrow isn't almost extinct... merely locationally challenged.

as for Tin Men and Lions... hey, they are a dime a dozen these days.
