I love my quiet early mornings
with a steaming cup of coffee and a cigarette;
I watch the light play in the garden
and recall when love played 'Hard-to-Get'
knowing it couldn't be mine just yet.

Strange how I knew you those years ago
and could not, or did not, give second thought
to the next one hundred eighty months to pass,
to wars, alone had to be fought.
Love left for Kansas, not to be caught.

Thank God for MySpace
or you never woulda found me
and made the trip to Pensacola
just to be around me
and you gave me a ring
there in Optimist Park
and I smile...remembering
and loving the dark

because I know early morning comes
and the window captures my entwine,
this is what I call 'me-time'
when I bask in the love that's finally mine.

Dixie, I'm taking it that things
are good with you now? Good. It's time
that you might know bliss.

Thanks for a lovely morning twilight poem that also tells a relatively happy story! Here's to hope, and love, and sweet dreams, and morning coffee, and last but by no means least the light outdoors as the sun climbs through its wonderful changes.

I love the fourth and fifth line of the opening stanza.  I don`t understand the reference of love leaving for Kansas.  I think I may have run into that expression in another one of your poems if I am not mistaken.  I am happy that you have found love and it is evident that the poem is brimming with it.

Dixie, your life has been one long poem, of beauty and loss, and survival and peace.

It is like a song of bloom and bones, and whiskey and wind that never ends, and never will.

You are a wonder my friend.

You are, poetry.

Dear Dixie congratulations on turning your life around, I knew you could do it. If you

have the right attitude and the will to do it, you can do almost anything. May the sun shine upon you every day from this point onwards. love

I loved the rhythm and flow of this one. Ah moments like these are to treasured.
