We stood like angels without eyes,
Motionless, side by side
The ocean cascading along the reefs of the town.

I asked the child to forgive my sins
So my gray hairs could bristle
along the thought of no longer being shamed,
No longer laying awake
Wondering if I will die in the twist of fate.

I asked the boy to give leniency.
To the misguided, to the tormented,
To the rosemary halls of the young, fatherless children
That waited so long,
Their eyes blinded against the white pale walls.

I asked him to forgive the sins of my own,
To be the lamb for the rest,
The nameless martyr
So the crickets could cease the winds plight of tears.

To become the nameless one,
A tree, for all to behold.
