The poster,
was ambling in the air
fettered to a stop sign.

On the corner of
Fate, and Fondness.

It said.

Yard Sale
Plenty Of Bargains
Slightly Used Items
Going Away Cheap.

I wasn’t really planning
on doing any shopping
on the way to the lake
but I turned left anyway, and
took a quick look.

She had a box full
of baseball cards
that I thumbed through
rather quickly.

As well as some old records
that still looked like
they could dance.

There was a sweater
that seemed comfortable,
but I didn’t
try it on.

It had a heart stitched
on the chest
just sitting, on the lawn.

There was glasses
plates, and silverware
and a cup that had
a chip.

She said she had to buy
a ticket
for a one way trip.

The items all looked
lonely
being tossed out of
their home.

Especially the pillow
with some tear stains
in the foam.

It’s sad when you're
a journal
in a box that says,
For Free.

Full of poems and letters
that now sit
beneath a tree.

Pages full of words
that used to
make somebody smile.

Now just flying
in the wind
toward distant
Isles.

Sometimes I feel like I’m
the imposter
shackled to the pole.

Ambling in the air,
With really
nowhere else to go.

I held a broken lamp
thinking
I could use more
light.

Browsing at this
Heart Clearance
On my way,
to life.

But when I went
to turn it on
it seemed to lose
its glow.

This,
Going Out Of Love Sale
Everything Must Go.

I did not expect to cry over your poem, but oh well this is almost too much to bear ... funny, I am the one who says I am not attached to anything I can easily give things away, but your words now really make me stop to ponder, dear Richy.

This is an incredibly moving write. Love every bit of it.

... now shall I keep those pages or let them dance in the wind? I felt I could, but now I am not so sure.

Love,
Margherita

Like this "Heart Sale" I have felt like an intruder too reading something private thrown into a box for sale, or free.  I once found an entire cardboard box full of love letters from the second world war, took them over to the owner as I was sure it was a mistake.  She said, "Oh they are just old love letters, my grandparents are dead now!"  She took them and dumped them into a garbage can.

I learned from that day to make sure that I made each day count, in love, and in life.

Oh by the way, this was FABULOUS!

A wonderful write, Richy.  Not your usual so it took me by surprise but so much insight and empathy.  Marvelous - and the fact that I'm feeling sad now at how so much of a person's life counts in the end for so little isn't the issue.

Funny, how many garage sale signs I've driven past all my life, and then you see one day, and a spark starts to smolder somewhere in the back of your eyes.

Thank you all so very, very, much. You guys really leave me without ways to express my gratitude for your overwhelming kindness.

We have a pretty nice little place here, don't we?

Nice only, because of people like you.

Richard~
I love that the garage sale, sign, & contents sparked a poem for you.. I`m always fascinated by the origins of poems.. how we (as writers/dreamers) will see or experience the same thing as many others, but for the poet it may be the seed of a poem!  Don`t you find that to be true? Sometimes I`ll have a stubborn little poem-seed rattling around up there for weeks before it germinates.. other times they simply flow out like agua. =)
And as for fishing?!  =)  (in reply to yr comment on my `sweet` poem).. I do love the water.. the sun..the breeze, the boat.. even yes the grilled fillet.. but maybe not the baiting the hook & waiting for hrs. for a bite.. haha!  My hubs gets some pretty big Salmon out of the Columbia & it`s tributaries.. yum!
Well, be happy & healthy, my friend~
