You took me through back alleys of love songs and commentaries Showing me the way to every open sore inside your mind I made my home inside of them, believing this was where I belong And for the time being, I was well But time went on and every justifiable reason turned into an excuse Nothing added up and I began to question answers that didn't even exist Drawing my own conclusions In scribbled lines and shady skecthes of lies Confrontation became accusations, and the temptation to walk away was unbearable Inescapable A goodbye that I could never handle So I convinced myself that you would change That things would turn the other way And for the time being, I was well But too many tears I cried one too many times each night When you were never here When you were right beside me I felt no comfort, I heard no reassuring words And I can't continue to be the one who reaches out for you When you aren't there for me I tried to make you happy, make you smile I'm not accepting failure But simply the fact you are not the one I was meant to please I deserve so much more than what you have to offer And anyone who can say they'd be better off alone They must have gotten to you first I'm not trying to tear you up or break you down I don't want to be the cause of all your pain But I can't be the target of all your fun and blame Because for the time being, I'm not that well Emily Shives May 5th 2010 |

Very real, raw and reflective...the fact that you relize you deserve better reminds me of line in a song..."I'm not crazy just a litte unwell... " When ever your heart takes a hit it's normal to feel a lttle unwell..."but stick around you will see a better part of me"...you are now on the road to well..ww |

A very well-composed poem, and I might say universal in theme to all relatively sensitive and caring people... There are too many ego-damaged units out there looking for nought but a whipping doll. Best of luck to the protagonist!  |
