Tooth and Nail

All around me, the weather was throwing a tantrum
spitting lightning; causing the planet to lurch; general havoc.
There were knives in my hands
there were knives in your hands
and we were a building corner away
from letting them get acquainted.
You came for me
now i am coming for you
you were going to stay until you killed me anyhow
and that made me brave
having nothing to lose.
My feline paws padded silently
there can only be one master
let the knives decide
I sharpened them against the concrete

you couldn't help but growl
and I heard you before you saw me
as saber and tooth met
leaving only one
to ride it out
to write it out
tooth and nail.

Dear Jeff, you too really sharpened your pen to write so captivatingly about this fight. Very powerful!

And such a lovely picture of the feline I adore!

Love,

Jeff...I admit that I cheated and stole a look at the photo and lost the mystery of who held the knife.  Much enjoyed anyway as I have a feline friend, or is it she that has me?

There are, unfortunately, some people such as that, too... so this composition works on that level also. Very interesting. We've had cat fights around here but usually when a cat dies violently it is a dog's or pair of dog's doing.

Yo Jeff,

The idea behind this poem is solid.

I'm honored and humbled by your responses.  Always had a soft spot for cats for some reason.  Thought I'd write a first person stalking tale - with a twist!
Thanks again,
Jeff
