Grace on high heels

*
Her silhouette in black
stands out against
the whiteness of Trinità dei Monti.

Her stage is the street.
The music finds a way
to reach the passersby
who turn their heads
and stop to watch,
because

she dances

she dances and smiles

she dances with grace.

White clouds stop sailing
through the blue sky
and cling to the roofs
of the nearby palazzi
to watch her play
with a little umbrella.

She dances

she dances on high heels

she dances and ignites the hearts.

When the music stops
a young man applauds,
mesmerized.
Brava! Others join ...
a few leave a coin.
She smiles.
The clouds smile back too
and move on.

Grace lingers in the air ...

while she prepares to perform
for the stars and for the moon.

Once more she will fill space with grace
and conquer all the impending gloom.

My Fair Lady comes to mind, and really so much more.
You've created an assortment of colorful visuals, and each one
is a pure delight.  You had me with your title, and everything
else was an added bonus!!!  You one upped yourself with this one.

Oh I enjoyed your poem so much, Margherita~

Margherita,

Yes.  The vision you paint makes me smile.  This is why I return to PiP - thank you, oh lovely one, for sharing the beauty of the dance and dancer.

Love,
Alison

Oh, I love this! Your poem dances as well as your main character. Have you read Rilke's poem about the Spanish dancer? Yours reminds me of his. Bravo!

hello Margherita, this is so vivid, I can be in the poem with people that stand there, the scene is convincing and really transported me in Italy (I guess)

Dear Lori, thank you so much for telling me your pleasure in reading this. The scene was really so fascinating and inspired me to write about it.

Dear Alison, what a joy to find you here, I have missed you! Thank you so much for your loving comment.

Dear Bastet, thank you for your very kind and special comment. I do love Rilke of course, but had never read the "Spanische Tänzerin". I found it in the original German version and I am impressed! There is fire in his words! His poetry reaches incredible heights.

Yes, dear Yann, this happened in the center of Rome, close to the Spanish steps/Trinità dei Monti. Thank you for your loving words. I will now go see if I can find a nice picture of the place ...

Have all a nice day too.

wow this is beautiful scenery!

I can barely walk on high heels myself, so I admire anyone who can dance in them.

Oh dear Margherita, this is a so falous place to be, I visited it in 1994 with a friend...Rome is a wonderful city, I heard two days ago that Italy sum up a quarter of the artistic artifacts in the entire World....

thanks a lot

Now I shall remember the clouds that cling to roof edges like bleachers, and the grace of a black-clad street dancer (in heels, no less) that lingers... Thanks!

Wonderful write, Margherita.  You made the scene come alive and also made me think of my son who sometimes does "street performing".  One of his props is an extremely high uni-cycle on which he does fire juggling.  Not as graceful as high heels and yet so full of grace.

It is a pleasure to read your words again.

Yo dear Margherita,

This is a delightful poem.

It brings to mind a beautifully tall young lady I met at Mass this morning.

Dear Earl, glad that I brought you a smile. Thank you!

Thank you so much, dear Dixie. I loved high heels too "in my time", but now I better desist! Must be able to run fast after my grandkids !

Dear Vandana, thank you for stopping by and enjoying it.

Thank you, dear Walter. It's nice to hear that you could feel it.

Dear Yann, yes Rome is so packed with beautiful places and art, a lifetime isn't enough to really know them all. Though traffic is sometimes almost too much to bear, it remains a fascinating city.

Thank you so much, dear Denise, for your kind comment.

Dear James, thank you! She was indeed a very lovely girl, but I think you have plenty of beauties to admire there in Hawaii too! But the Roman atmosphere surely deserves to be known!

Thank you, dear easy1, for your loving comment and welcome to Pip!

Dear Lamar, thank you for telling me you enjoyed it.

Dear Helen, what a lovely comment, thank you. I am impressed to hear of the incredible street performances of your son! Wow! There is a special fascination in this kind of exhibition of one's art. I remember many spectacles from my childhood in my hometown. Always loved it.

Thank you, dear Bobby, for stopping by and commenting so lovingly. Don't get too distracted during the Mass!

Love,
Margherita

Let me add my `Brava!` to this playful piece... I enjoyed your sprinkled rhyme and the anticipatory ending.  For me, the most enchanting line is `grace lingers in the air`...  Lovely!

Thank you, dear Richy, for your loving comment. It's good to have you back. I am fine, thank you, wish I had more time to write ...

Dear Amaryllis, I enjoyed your kind comment ... and indeed "grace" was the main ingredient of the scene.
