BEE DANCE

Not
for the apple blossoms’
assembling aromas
Nor
for the caramel caress
of thick, liquid light.
Not
for the rumbling, rhythmic buzz
Nor
for the magenta fields drawn
to checkerboard perfection.

No,
but for the dance, hypnotic power,
ordered movement, rapid repetition,
a dervish that communicates nearness
to the hive, an easy flight to the source.

The sickle dance, precise as the eye measuring the distance to the new moon,
complex with a chasse or a twirl added to reach the sky-blush blooms.
Black antenna vibrate like thick lashes, round abdomen wobbling, striped with gold,
wings all glossy glitter, a figure of light, a straight course,
two opposing semi-circles like two well-rounded breasts.
Yes,
next time I’ll be born a bee, choreography already programmed in.
Let’s clone the bees, make sure they’re still here to teach us
art, industry, economy, the dance of a well-ordered society.

Wow!  I bee impressed with your Bee Dance!  Very descriptive and accurate!   My son just put up his first bee hive a couple of weeks ago.   Fascinating insects!   I'll have to read your poem to him!

Glad I happened in on your poem.   Incidently,  I haven't seen your name here before, but I haven't been here lately.   I wish to extend a big welcome.  WELCOME!

you were right to write about the fascinating lessons from bees we can learn.  A total symbiotic society.
A special submission, Bastet,

Yo Bastet,

As an old bee keeper from my country days, I like this poem.

Make sure you smoke your hive real good so they get their tummies full of honey before you try and rob them.

Dear Bastet, this is one precious write! I think you really observed them well and love them, because your work does them full justice.

May they go on with their essential contribution to the balance of Nature!

Wonderful poem.

Love,
Margherita

Oh Bravo.. just sublime! Loved this one.. as I said, I am a fan; your writing is captivating.  I liked the choice to start slow, then up the tempo as you bring in the dance.. and the fine imagery here, also. Well-crafted!

Welcome to PIP Bastet and if the bee-dance
is a sample of your ability as a poet, I'm

sure we can look forward to more great poems. You've done well.
