Bones is out on the street
a late and lonely night.

Fog horns are blowing
out on the river,
and if you listened closely enough,
you could hear the water
pushed aside
out in the main stream.

The train roars lonely
along the shaky old El
up at Kensington and Allegheny—
better know as K and A,
and Bones knows
he’s alone in the street,
so very alone.

Bobby

A very poignant portrayal of loneliness. You set the scene perfectly. The solitary  figure of "Bones" stands out against the landsscape. Great poem.

You have painted a vivid picture of what lonliness means.

I can feel the loneliness that Bones is feeling here.

Yo Bobby,
Good job on articulating the emotion of loneliness...but you know you never walk alone.ww

Bobby this is wonderful, this is Hopperian (as the painter) and you shows the solitude of modern life with a paintful talent...This is one of your best and if you don't mind I will keep it on my computer with other american poems...

I hear those fog horns on the river at night. Also the train whistles. I can hear both from my house at night (the El is a couple miles too far away for me to hear). They do have a haunting and lonely quality about them. You've expressed it well, Bobby!

So now Bones knows that it's all up to him and him alone - oh, if he doesn't believe, of course, in the invisible ones.

Thanks dear Helen,

Bones has always had a lot of self confidance.  He's also a firm believer, and good Catholic boy.
