My mommy bought me a songbird,
It's yellow and green and white,
But this morning it wouldn't sing a note
Something is just not right?

I went to the kitchen to tell my mom,
"My bird won't sing anymore?"
She said, "Just get dressed or you'll be late,
Pick your clothes up off the floor."

My bird just kind of lays there?
No sound nor chirps or song,
Why doesn't my bird sing anymore?
Maybe my dad will know what's wrong.

I went to the den to ask my dad,
He knows most everything.
"Dad" I said, "That bird I have,
Just lays there and won't sing."

My dad replied, "I'm late for work,
Hand me my case and lunch,
And don't be late for school or else,
And hurry or you'll miss the bus."

Why doesn't my bird sing anymore?
So sweetly like he did back then?
I guess when I get home from school,
I'll just wind him up again.

Haha. It's hard for me to write humorous material, but you did very good.

Yo Toerag,

Winding that bird up could do the trick.

LOL... now if only the bird was wound to sing and it was the alarm clock that wasn't working! That would definitely be a better wakeup! *g*

On the other hand... any day with Toerag poetry is a day worth waking up! *g*

Enjoyed this!!

I can't always count on you. Made me chuckle. I wish I had lived next door back then.

Yo Toe... me thinks this poem goes a little deeper than just a wind-up toy. I like the way this one plays out on multiple levels. Peace to you, my friend.

Oh, it's a wind-up toy, Andrew, just not a bird!

I think 'Deer knows something there.  Ol' Toe is a collector of fine things that sing when he abuses them.

Amaryllis, we've been asking that question for over a decade... and still, we've yet to get a straight answer. I'm sure you'll find many who are willing to give their opinion, but your guess is as good as the next guy/gal.

It does touch on various levels, how the grown ups never understand a child's mind and sensitivity. Until the last line i did believe it to be a real bird. Good humor..

One thing with those song birds Toe
it doesn't cost anything to feed them and

they only sing when you want them to.
enjoyed.
