.

It was good
To the side
The tall elm
Standing alone
In the field

A last flight
Of birds
Taking wing
Into the deep dark
Dusk blue crimson
Coming night

To hear
The water purl
Beyond the reeds

To finally sleep
A soft pillow
Caressing your head
The cool sheets

Yes it was
And then
Out of nothing
Consciousness
To your mute surprise

The yellow light
Air in the lungs

You were so ready
Though never again . . .
There was no fear

But now
It’s another day
And you must go on

.
