Oh what misery descends upon me
And oh, what things I see which will never be
What treasures are left to be found
And will heralding horns make their sound?

Atlantis lies asleep in its watery grave
No more lives nor souls to save
No more secret paths through woods to discover
Nor ancient relics to recover

Oh, what pitiful, miserable wretch
Nothing left down the stretch
All the lessons have been learned
And all the bridges have been burned

Too many sunsets wasted
And too many salty tears tasted
No more innocent hearts unbroken
All the lies between the truth are spoken

I took all the world would give
And yet, still on I live
Oh me, pitiful, miserable wretch
Misery is all there is, and nothing left

Too many sunsets wasted
And too many salty tears tasted

How can I call something beautiful when it leaks such pain? How can I not when it reaches right into my heart?

Excellent write, my friend... I particularly love the lines above... I live them. *S*

This hurts to read, one of your most powerful poems.

The second stanza stands out in this well written work.
