Hello everyone. I have been away much too long and returned to find some very depressing news regarding a fellow poet friend of mine, Midnitesun. This is my first poem in a very long time, and it is for her: A Northern Chill Copyright 2010 by: Mark V Sheldon A Northern Chill just frosted through my heart with an Alpine kiss of departure Solitude howling a lupine loss of An evergreen soul whose warmth No tundra could contain Gaia's streams tear through the wilderness less The grizzly absence of a Midnitesun Whose rays shall no longer effect a House, green with envy That a spirit could be so free To speak out to an arctic world and Melt frozen hearts that forgot the grass Roots that connect our feat together Glacial lament echoes know A flurry's fury will know more Hurry through nature's wild heart Now that a new expedition has begun... Very poignant and profound. Yes, our dear Kacy-Midnitesun is very very much missed. But as you say a new mission has begun for her, I love this vision. Love, Margherita |

Thank you everyone for the comments... Returning here after such a long absence, I feel like the adult Toto in CINEMA PARADISO at the end of the film when a flood of memories overwhelm him upon his return to his profoundly changed hometown... Kacy is the second poet friend (the legendary Seymour Tabin being the first one) to whom I was too late to say goodbye. I miss a lot of familiar names here in the Blue Pages from when I joined in 2001 and see the landscape has changed with the welcome addition of newer generations of fellow poets whose works I hope to read and look forward to new friendships, but I am truly saddened by our loss. I would be honored if this poem were forwarded to Sara along with my deepest and sincerest condolances. Kacy was a rare human who saw the bigger picture but never lost sight of the details that made this life worth living in the first place. I will always remember her kindness and huge heart for life, nature, and all of us. Mark, thank you very much for letting me send your beautiful poem to Sara. She will be very heart-warmed by the tribute of your poem, what you have said about Kacy and everyone else's input too. May I suggest that you do a search for Kacy's poetry written while you were away? As you know, it always was very beautiful, but during her illness of about 18 months, from its unexpected onset for as long as she was able to write, her poetry took on an extra beautiful and extra sensitive and extra compassionate celebration of Life, in the macrocosm, but very especially in the microcosm. She has taught us all so very much about so many things in so many ways. I know she is reading what you wrote, putting a comforting hand on your shoulder, as she smiles at your understanding of who she was/is. As I said in my poem to her, I feel her in the ether and in the Nature around me and I often chat to her, especially about little garden critters that she loved/loves so much. Owl |

Mark this was lovely. Kacy has left quite a mark in everyone's memory. She was a such a fighter, but eventually just lost her battle. I will always remember her, and loved the time I spent with her and Sara here in Vancouver. She was a rare bird, or Kacy, and a wonderful human being that made my life better. |

The meaning gets lost quite quickly. some words in literature stand out and make an impression instantly in these lines; a northern chill, heart kiss, howling and warmth stand out but the other words take its meaning away. Elaborate more on the feeling of a few words. and let the feeling of what your trying to say take over the rest of the poem. I wanted to read your poem in its entirety but after these few lines I stopped reading. |

Mark...I found myself missing Kacy more after reading your words here. She was a remarkable person and a friend to many. Thank you for writing this touching poem. |
