A Spring mourning

Such a careless, Spring morning
All wrapped up in last night's dew stained clothes.
Draping her form around the early risers,
The drivers, deliverers, farmers and the fallen.
She embraces them all, this seasonal mistress.

Quite a normal, Spring morning
The traffic, ebbing and flowing with the rush hour tide,
Carrying the catch of a thousand, corporate nets.
Sticky faced children, sequined eyes at the windows
Of impractical cars, bound for ivy clad schools.

An expectant, Spring morning
Waiting for the shuttered eyes of the shops to blink open.
The symphony of the city, warming up its overture
For the businessmen who dance to its daily tune.
Commuting their way through their high rise lives.

A fearful, Spring morning.
Opening her eyes to a dawn she would rather not see.
Dressing silently, she paints a smile for the children,
Washes the dishes and makes the beds
And beneath her swollen gown,a heart falters.

On this pleasant, Spring morning,
She stands by the hospital doors, pleading with time
And sketching to memory this fading frame..
Her hand, resting low. The guilty, whisper
To the one that couldn't be. She steps inside.

Such a careless, Spring mourning
Making her way home with her coffee-to-go.
Her bagel-to-go
A life to go.

...so many perspectives of the same setting....I really liked the last verse. Well done.

this was very interesting...as I read each stanza, I found myself forcing my mind to agree that how you described each scene was exactly on target...love this style...like anything that makes me think

I am disappointed in this poem, it appears to be a beautiful title, but the content begs to differ.

I'm sorry you found it disappointing. It is, unlike much of my writing, a very personal script. I lost a baby last week and this poem merely charts my journey to the hospital. In my grief I wanted the world to stop and mourn with me, but of course life went on around me. A Spring morning for them, a Spring mourning for myself.
