The world is a desolate place.
I call it home.
I am going to die today.
The world will not change with or without me.

Everything happens for a reason they say.
They also say that there is God.

“Who am I?” I ask them.

Then they reiterate the existence of God.

“Am I alive?” I ask myself.

In the recesses of my mind,
an answer arrives,
yet is drowned out by the echoes.

“There is a God. There is a God. There is a God.”

So what if God exists,
how does that explain my existence?
The echoes only gain more strength,
as my words fuel their ire.

“There is a God. There is a God. There is a God!”

Then I remember that the answer lies hidden behind these words,
beyond my reach and yet
regardless,
the answer still exists, as a whisper,
calling to me constantly
under all the noise.

As soon I begin to make out the faint words and hope reaches its apex,

"There is a God.”

Then all is lost.

So, yes;
today is the end.
Death is freedom some say.
They also say there is a God.

there is a sadness to this, along with a ray of hope...a well written piece that is able to move the reader (at least, it moved me)

Yo Nevermore93,

Yes, there is a God.  However, death is never freedom, or even free.

There are days when I feel so invisible.
Then I remember that we cannot expect too much from each other.
If I sit and analyze God and life, it is so easy to find a reason to be resentful.
Then I take a stab at the hard part.... looking around and finding the beautiful and amazing delights God has provided for us.
How can I be so blind to want to choose the darkness of death over the warm and comforting light of life?

Thank you steavenr, I'm glad that you were able to see the underlying hope within the piece.

And Robert, when I said that death was freedom, I meant in a religious sense, for death is associated with the beginning of everlasting life, at least for those that are saved. Also, I am not saying that there or isn't a God. This is more about search for meaning and less about trying to prove or disprove God's existence.

And OldBuddyOldPal, this poem really isn't about religion as much as it is about trying to find one's own path in life, under all the muddied messages and information given to man by society.

I would also like to say, that this poem isn't about suicide.

I am sorry I misread it. I understand your point of view now. I apologize.

This poem lacks heart and strong development.  It drags from start to end.
