The Sound Of...

I see now that all I am
is a trophy for your mantle
to display the depth of me
that you martyred and ripped out;
but all the reasons why
no matter how scrutinized or analyzed
until they are agonized
dare not question the answers.

So add me to the broken hearts
you've collected
between the cold of your blade
and the stone of your stare
promise played the pied piper
that I was nothing more
than the lamb
for your slaughter.

I weep without tears
writhing in painful realization
that you are not worth
the blood it takes
to gut hope any further.

And here we are
to be forgotten
and you have the nerve to ask me
to scream with no sound.

Damn, but this is another fine piece of writing. One can truly feel the emotional contempt the narrator has for their subject. I particularly like the lines

I weep without tears
writhing in painful realization
that you are not worth
the blood it takes
to gut hope any further.

Ouch! At its best.
I'd hate to be Tony, if Tony be the reason for this write.

This is a cool and powerful statement.
Of strength and resolve.
Beautifully written Honeybee.

Two of the best closing lines I have ever seen. Wow!

You should get a Tony award for this one....for YOUR mantle!

powerful and well-written from start to finish, but like others have stated, the ending is awesome
