You don’t have to be a witch
To bewitch me
You don’t have to lock me away

In this prison by the sea

Long, countless hours and days pass
With nothing to do but think
No means of escape; for I’ve tried
And my risen hopes slowly sink
I’ve asked the walls in vain
What I had possibly done
To deserve this tormenting terror
As I gaze at the setting sun
The light glittering off white capped waves
The sky in darkening hues
A crazy notion comes to me
That I’m here because of you
The majesty of nature within reach
Such beauty before me
And yet I am unable to enjoy it

In this prison by the sea

And oh how slowly does time pass
When you are alone
With only your idle thoughts for company
Inside these walls of stone
Oh how you mesmerized me
And tricked me into this
I was not aware as you turned my head
And trapped me with a kiss
All the pleasures of the world
Are right here for me
As long as I remain a prisoner

In this, my prison by the sea

A poignant emote....the repetition of "in this prison by the sea" was effective and powerful.  I like this change in style from you.

I really like this poem.
It flows beautifully and had an unexpected ending.
I have always loved being at the ocean.
I find the continuous sound of the waves hitting the sand calming, making the beach a perfect place for reflection. Being prisoner at the sea with the special someone I love is something I dream of often.

I will surely read this piece again.

Worthy of several reads. I've been to the island too.

"We'll chase them like rats across the tundra."

Poet Extraordinaire-  your poem is blissful the elegance is lacking, the beauty is so-so, I wouldn't elect this poem as one of my favorites.

a prison by the sea - tells me alot about the creator of this phrase
