Your wanting eyes
Request a morning treat
Chicken strip by dad
With one from mom
Two tender treats to be complete
But,
Your wanting eyes
Cast upon the bag
Say, you’ve only counted up to one
And, one is one
The number two you did not meet
So,
One more chicken from me
Where two now becomes three
Which works for the doggy
Because it equals happy

Its dog math you see

"We'll chase them like rats across the tundra."

Cute.  I think my father would like this even though he is into cat math.

Yo Andrew,

I'm afraid you lost me.  What is a "chicken strip"?

I don't think we have them here in Philly.

I am aware of this form of math.

It's a good form.

Hey Earl… I think dog and cat math are pretty much the same.
Thank you Lady Margherita.
REJ: Rather than give our dog the typical fatty little taste treats that are so often found on pet food shelves, we give our dog something we call “chicken strips.” Think of beef jerky, only made with chicken breasts. 97% fat free! I actually ate one myself. Not bad, but a little bland for my taste. April, our dog, on the other hand, goes nuts for em’.
Sir Viking_Metal… I tend to agree.
Thanks all for looking in. This piece wasn’t written with any desire to be perfect in rhyme or meter, just a fun observation of our family morning routine.

Very inventive and a delightful read.

"equals happy" is always good math, but all too often it's an evaluation left out of the equations that people work with.

You’re most welcome deleeme. Thanks for looking in and leaving your mark.
RC, glad you see the wisdom of such equations.
Haaa…Hey Balladeer, isn’t that Snidely Whiplash’s dog? I’m trying to remember his name, but I’ll be hang-dogged if I can come up with it. Thanks for the read and write.

Snidely? Snidely Whiplash named his dog Snidely! Hmmm… I really don’t remember this bit of trivia, but I certainly remember watching all the Hana-Barbara cartoons back in the day.

Precious little (or middle-sized, or big or huge) April!  Please give her an extra chicken strip and lots of pats and cuddles and hugs and kisses from her adoring Auntie Di (Owl) in sunny South Africa!  If that would too many for her own good, then just give her the rest, please.

Oh!  I could NEVER be a dyslexic aetheist – nor could I be allergic to dogs or ANY animals.  If I was either, I would have landed up in a loony bin at the age of 1 day old.  Simply the thought of living in a world without animals is enough to land me up there!

I enjoyed your delightful little poem.  My darling little 14½ year old, Maltese poodle doggy, Daisy, went to Heaven 4 months and 1 day ago, and my kitty and I, are devastated and lost without her.

AS....

It's been some time since we lost our Abby-girl; but she has been memorialized in Poe and Twain, our brother Shih Tzus who absolutely adore chicken treats.

Their smarts about counting, and knowing what head mom [girl]dog might exhibit when it comes to sharing is amazing.

The brothers will turn two years mid June. By mid-August, they will have spent two years under our rooff.

I didn't think I needed them at the time. I'm glad I now realize what I didn't know then...

think about it.

Thanks for this. It's a

Sunshine and Owl... April is a very well loved and pampered member of the family.  Sorry for your losses... it's one of the hazards of loving. I've cried many a tear over my daughter's hamsters. It is amazing how attached one can become.

Bobby...we all know who calls the shots in this house. And yes, she is one smart pup.
