Behind The Veil

Before you
there were others
just as confident, smug,
so sure they would understand.
But, I'm not so easily saved
made a slave
to your carnal manhood.

If you only looked
you would have seen the truth
that you're just another carbon copy
of all the ones before.
If only once you listened
to the breath behind the words
focusing on something more
rather than fantasizing me
in something less
you would have claimed the best -
my heart.

If only you saw past the wanton ways
you would have been within my skin,
but, it's a sin when a man
who's only a boy
wants the sex
and not the soul of a woman.

The glass slippers I wear for you
have cracked
because you can't seem to take your stare
off my chest
or indulge in clever conversation
without your shallow banter.
Last I checked romance wasn't a game of chance
when every second or third word you pick up
is changed to some sleazy innuendo in your favour.

Behind the veil
I let the real of me die
for a love that's never real.
You only smell the scent of grass
and lick the tempting tongue;
you only see the eager eyes
the come hither on the other side.

But, I'm just as much the fool.
I am fraudulent fervor in the search
and that's why I give up.

Yo dear Honeybee,

I like this a lot.  There's just no mending glass slippers.

"If only once you listened
to the breath behind the words"

Now THAT is what every woman desires.

Not that I think I speak for us all, but yet...

I nod.

That's totally lovely. (reminds me of JM, actually! and that makes me happy too! I miss her.)

I am getting hooked on your lessons.  There is truth in your words; a truth that rings thru to my guilty conscious for the youth I squandered on the chase.  You are 100% spot on in your assessment of a trait characterizing many men.  We really can be too lazy to appreciate the breath behind the words.

I hope time will heal the wounds you have suffered, not thru deliberate thrusts, but thru just plain ignorance.

Lady Honeybee, another fine piece of writing. Just don't give up the search. Peace!
