The leaves had collected on the ground
The wind had turned a cooler shade
Somehow there was a familiar sound
In every chorus nature made

Freshest of air, sweetest of smell
Hoping to hold onto this moment in time
Keeping his silence, wanting to tell
All who would listen to his mind

With a new season, old season’s memory brings
Foretelling also future if dared to dream
Seeing this and many more things,
But the visions are never what they seem

What is Autumn if not a subconscious metaphor
A wake up call before the dead that is winter
His heart cries out like never before
Even as the trees crack, and splinter

Terrible though, that the knowledge is gained
That beginnings fade into endings twilight
And all that is achieved is somehow in vain
Like the quickening coming of Winter’s night

But even winter shall depart the land and give way to the newness of spring. Thanks for sharing this very fine piece of writing. Peace to you and your's.

Excellent writing here....this is one of the best poems regarding winter's cruel hand and the change that occurs from it. The last 2 stanzas were powerful. I'm saving this, it's also on of your best.

Chalmette Guy - Each day death strikes but we live our lives as if we were immortal. And so shall it be thru the Winter nights. There is an intrinsic beauty in your words here. Nice work CG. Namyh
